Troop 157
Knox Trail Council - Boy Scouts of America
This wiill be our first ski trip of the year. We will be skiing at either Wildcat Mountain or Bretton Woods, with the final decision depending on snow conditions. But right now it is looking like ski conditions will be excellent, and so Wildcat is probably our destination. We will be staying at Mr. Lee's condominium at Bretton Woods. Both downhill and cross-country skiing will be available (assuming there is sufficient snow for cross-country, and we have sufficient boys and adult leaders to support both). If we go to Wildcat for downhill skiing, we will probably go to Great Glen for cross country skiing, as it is only a couple of miles away, right in Pinkham Notch.
The basic cost (with lift tickets, lodging, and food) is $55 for downhill and cross-country skiers. Add $25 if you are 13 or older and downhill skiing (to cover more expensive lift ticket). Add $25 if you are 13 or under and renting downhill skis (add $40 if you are over 13 and renting downhill skis). Add $25 if you are renting cross-country skis (any age). Thus, for example, if you are 12, downhill skiing, and renting skis, your cost would be $80 ($55 + $25). Ski school lessons are included at no extra charge for first time skiers. Each boy will need additional funds (e.g., $25) to cover cost of a dinner stop on the way north on Friday night, lunches at the ski area on Saturday and Sunday, and a snack on the way home on Sunday.
We will have the Bretton Woods Sports Lodge (steam room, Jacuzzi, pool, etc.) at our disposal. We will probably go out for pizza on Saturday night. Most of us will be sleeping on the floor, and so bring a comfortable sleeping pad, air mattress, or cot. Departure will be at 6 pm on Friday evening from the Scout House. We will return late afternoon on Sunday (about 5 pm).
Be sure to bring this Permission Form signed by your parent. Those renting skis will also need to sign a rental form, also signed by your parent. Copies of both forms will be available at our meeting on December 1, and also at dropoff time on December 5.
We need to have a pretty accurate head count for the trip to be sure we have adequate drivers. So please be sure to let Mr. Lee know whether you are going at our December 1 meeting, or call him at 521-7039 (leave message) by Tuesday, December 2. Any parent able to go should contact Mr. Lee at the same number.
