Following our meeting on Thursday, we had a successful workday improving our troop's cabin at Nobscot. We had seven adults working most of Saturday, and two working Sunday morning. A lot was accomplished:
1. Latrine removed (all lumber burned, reused, or trucked out by Bob Ventura).
2. New back door installed.
3. New porch rail installed, and rotted sections of floor and siding at base replaced.
4. Smoke detector, CO detector, and two fire extinguishers installed.
5. Unused chimney opening plugged with bricks and mortar.
6. Small openings through walls plugged with sheathing on inside.
7. New back door and plywood window shutters freshly painted with two coats of dark green stain. Makes cabin look great!
8. Kitchen counter repaired to make usable.
9. Three new plexiglass windows installed in kitchen (6 windows now have plexiglass, and 2 do not; all now have hinged shutters that can be opened when the cabin is in use).
10. Two new benches built for interior.
11. Scrap wood from under cabin removed (trucked out by Bob Ventura; some useful pieces of wood have been left under porch).
We have a few minor tasks left to complete on a future trip (e.g., adjusting the heights of the steps of the porch staircase, building additional benches for seating, adding shelving in the kitchen).
We plan to do something about replacing the roof at some point in the relatively near future, but the roof is not presently leaking.
Please let us know if there is anything else that you believe we need to complete.
