Troop 157
White Mountains Hiking Trip, September 16-17, 2000
Cobra Patrol Menu, for 4-5 boys (adults eating separately)
Lunch & Trail Snacks
PB&J sandwiches, 7 full size sandwiches prepared ahead of time (wrap each sandwich in plastic wrap; put wrapped sandwiches in a zip lock bag or the like; use firm white bread; put peanut butter on both bread surfaces before applying jelly so that jelly won't penetrate through bread)
Apples, 5
Trail snacks, 5 (buy 5 servings of something like a Power Bar or Cliff Bar, or make up 5 small bags of trail mix ("gorp"), so that each patrol member has one)
Dinner
Alpine Aire Spaghetti & Meat Sauce Instant Meal Pouch, 8 servings (REI in Natick is probably the best place to purchase this; if this particular entrée is not available, get another one that you think your patrol would like; another brand of instant meal pouches is Mountain House; REI has a pretty wide selection of such food; servings are generally undersized, and thus get enough packages to provide 8 servings even though at most you are serving 5 boys, two 4-serving pouches would work well)
Cornbread, Jiffy Mix, one 8.5 oz box (DO NOT PURCHASE ADDED INGREDIENTS, dried egg, dried milk, and sugar, as they will be provided by the troop; cornbread will be cooked in the BakePacker units demonstrated at Tuesday's meeting)
Sugary drink mix, for 2-4 quarts (this is a mix to which you will add water)
Breakfast
Instant Oatmeal, 10 pkgs (DO NOT BUY, troop has enough left over from prior trips)
Hot Chocolate Mix, 10 pkgs (DO NOT BUY, troop has enough left over from prior trips)
Note: Some of items initially selected by the patrol had to be changed, as they were not appropriate from a nutrition and backpacking perspective, and particularly in light of the fact that these meals are being purchased and prepared to qualify for rank advancement.
