Weston Boy Scout Troop 157

Maine Island Sailing Trip
September 14-16, 2001

Our first trip of the year will take us to North Haven Island in Penobscot Bay along the midcoast of Maine.  We will drive up Friday evening to Rockland, and dash across Penobscot Bay on a chartered passenger boat (the Quicksilver) to Nelia Newell family's summer house in Pulpit Harbor on North Haven.  On Saturday, we will sail aboard Mr. Lee's Friendship Sloop ("Sazerac") and perhaps also Mrs. Newell's ensign.  We may be able to sail to and explore Butter Island (the troop's first Penobscot Bay destination back in September 1995).  On Sunday, we will take the Maine State ferry back to Rockland.  As we will be staying inside at Mrs. Newell's house, no camping equipment is needed except for sleeping bags and pads.  Pack all of your gear (sleeping bag and pad included) in a single duffel bag if possible so that it can be easily loaded into and out of the uicksilver on the way over on Friday night.  We will meet at the Scout House on Friday afternoon at 4:30 pm sharp.  Cost of the trip will be $40/person (to cover the Quicksilver, ferry tickets, and food).
