Weston Boy Scout Troop 157

Batten Kill Canoe Trip
October 13-14, 2001

We will be canoeing on the Batten Kill near Arlington, VT.  The river flows past some beautiful parts of the lower southwest corner of Vermont.  Saturday, we will drive first to our campsite (Camping on the Batten Kill) to drop off our gear.  Then, our outfitter will take us upstream where we will put in and canoe downstream to our campsite.  The outfitter will meet us at the campsite later on Saturday to retrieve the canoes.  See www.battenkill.com/kill.html for pictures and a description of the river.  Scouts of all levels are encouraged to join us regardless of experience in a canoe.  Those working on First Class will be able to cover the requirements associated with boating safety as well as work on camping and cooking skills.  Meet at the Scout House at 7 am sharp on Saturday morning.  The drive to the Batten Kill will be about 3-1/2 hours.  Return will probably be about Noon on Sunday, as we will be breaking camp much earlier than usual on this trip.  Scouts should review the Packing List on the Website and pay particular attention to bringing a warm sleeping bag and clothing, as it could be quite cold on the trip.  Cost of the trip will be $35/person which covers canoe rental, campsite and food. Each boy should also bring along about $10 for meals/snacks on the road going and returning.  Bring check or cash for $35 with you on Saturday morning.  Either print out the permission slip and bring it signed, or have your parents sign one when they drop you off.
