Weston
Boy Scout Troop 157
First Ski Trip
Pinkham Notch & Wildcat Mountain
February 8-10, 2002
We have a great ski trip planned. We're staying Friday and
Saturday night at the AMC Pinkham Lodge right at Pinkham Notch, and skiing at
nearby Wildcat Mountain. We'll enjoy the all-you-can eat massive breakfasts at
the Pinkham dining room on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. We'll probably
have pizza for dinner, perhaps over at the Bretton Woods Sports Lodge (swimming
pool, jaccuzi, etc.), as in past years. Pinkham Notch is a wonderful place to
stay. It is right at the top of the Notch, within the National Forest. We will
sleep in rooms with 4 beds, with linens provided (beds are even made up for
you, I believe), so you won’t need your sleeping bag or pad. Wildcat Mountain is just a 1/2 mile away,
and a great place to ski. It has an unparalleled view of Mt. Washington. It's
an excellent place to learn to ski, too, as it has a long bunny slope serviced
by a chairlift.
We'll meet at the Scout House at 6:30 pm, and drive straight through to Pinkham Lodge, stopping only very briefly. Have dinner before you leave. We’ll return at two different times on Sunday. Those who need to get back by 5-6 pm, will quit at about 1:30 pm, and travel home with Mr. Maurer. Those who can stay later will quit at about 3:00 pm, and travel home with Mr. Mixter. Cost of the trip is age dependent, as the cost of lodging and lift tickets varies with age. Boys, 12 and under: $130. Boys, 13-17: $160. Adults (18 or over), $184. If you need to rent skiis, add $50 to these prices. The troop's ski trips are a great opportunity to learn to ski, as Wildcat provides what amounts to a free lesson (as part of a lift/rental/lesson package for new skiers). If you want to come along, but not downhill ski, reduce the cost by $50 (12 and under), $80 (12 to 17), or $94 (adults). Also, bring along money to buy lunch at the ski area, and snacks on the way up and back.
